Wooden Plate Crafted from Upcycled Construction Waste
 

During the process of building a house, I witnessed the large quantities of construction waste generated on the site. As I explored ways to repurpose these materials, I realized that many of the fragments had diverse shapes. By embracing these irregular, non-linear materials, I designed wooden plates with unique curves, each one different from the other, and finished them with an abstract form. This abstract design avoids restricting their use, stimulating the imagination of the user and leaving the interpretation open to their creativity.

This project aims to contribute to the environment by reusing waste materials, while also reminding us that even the everyday items we take for granted are filled with the maker’s intentions. Through this initiative, I hope to foster a greater awareness of valuing the things we use, inspire new approaches to environmental issues, and serve as a step toward a sustainable future.

家を建てる過程で、工事現場から大量に発生する建築廃材を目の当たりにしました。その廃材をなんとか再利用できないかを探る中で、多様な形状を持つ破片が多いことに気付きました。そこで、直線的でない不揃いな素材を活かし、1点1点異なる曲線を描き、抽象的なフォルムの木製プレートをデザインしました。抽象的なフォルムにすることで、用途を限定せず、使用者の想像力を刺激するデザインとなり、使い手の発想に委ねる形にしています。

このプロジェクトは、廃材を再利用することで環境への貢献を目指すとともに、私たちが普段当たり前に使っているものにも作り手の思いが込められていることを再認識させてくれます。この取り組みを通じて、物を大切にする意識が広がり、環境問題に対する新たなアプローチが生まれ、持続可能な未来に向けた一歩を踏み出すきっかけとなることを願っています。
